Half-Inch Thick Mobile Projector With VGA Resolution is Available Now From 3M
3M has thrown its hat (albeit a little late) into the mobile projector ring with the likes of Texas Instruments and Microvision with a new ultra-compact, LED-illuminated projection engine that can project a 40-inch or larger image at VGA resolution. The device is intended to be integrated into a wide array of mobile technologies—and cellphones are undoubtedly at the top of that list. Fortunately, we won't have to wait too long for the technology to arrive. The device is already available and 3M is planning on partnering with various electronics manufacturers to release products in early 2008.
sony “pearl” sxrd projector officially announced
Sony has finally rolled out details of their latest SXRD front projector, the VPL-VW50 (originally codenamed "Pearl").
The new model features an array of three 0.61-inch SXRD chips at a full 1080p (1920×1080) resolution, capable of outputting all currently available high definition signals at full resolution. SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display), also known as LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon,) is reknowned for its extremely good black levels, and lack of visible pixel structure. The majority of sets from Sony and JVC (under the name D-ILA) have received rave reviews for picture quality.
The VPL-VW50 features Sony’s Advanced Iris 2 technology, designed to provide a dynamic contrast ratio of up to 15,000:1. The projector also features a powered 1.8x zoom lens, with powered vertical shift for installation to maximize installation flexibility.

X48 heavyweights go head to head Asus and Intel at the high end
Although Intel's processors and chipsets have long been embraced by PC enthusiasts, the company's motherboards have largely been ignored. Years ago, it was easy to see why. Intel motherboards didn't come with the tweaking and overclocking options that we crave, and that was understandable, since we never really expected Intel to endorse overclocking. However, times have changed, and so has Intel's tune. The firm now has several products targeted specifically at enthusiasts, including the new DX48BT2 "Bonetrail 2" motherboard that comes loaded with many of the features we'd expect from a modern, high-end mobo.
Based on Intel's flagship X48 Express chipset, Bonetrail's second coming faces stiff competition from Taiwanese mobo makers with far more street cred in the enthusiast space—credibility that, for the likes of Asus, is well deserved. Asus one of the biggest players in the motherboard market, and it's been catering to enthusiasts for as long as I can remember. Asus has embraced the X48 Express, as well, most recently with its Rampage Formula motherboard.
The Rampage Formula and DX48BT2 effectively target the same market, albeit with one DDR2 memory and the other with DDR3. For once, however, Intel is the underdog. Read on to see if the processor giant can beat Asus at its own game.

Intel introduced its first Bonetrail board, the DX38BT, last year with its then-flagship X38 Express chipset. The X38 has since been replaced by the X48 Express to accommodate the Core 2 Extreme QX9770's 1600MHz front-side bus, bringing with it a Bonetrail redux in the DX48BT2. We really wish Intel had stuck with the Bonetrail code-name here; DX48BT2 doesn't exactly roll off your tongue, although we can at least take some solace in the fact that the board avoids banal Extreme Edition branding. If you look closely, though, the BT2's Bonetrail roots shine through in the form of a couple of stylized skull logos emblazoned on the board.
As if the skull logo weren't tough enough, the DX48BT2 comes dressed in black and blue, like a tattooed biker in denim and leather.

philips dvd player offers ipod dock, 9-inch screen
You may or may not recall this Portable DVD Player that let you snap your iPod into its case so you could play your digital media on the go. This new variant on the design is less about taking your player on the road, and more about playing your media at home.
Perfect for a kitchen countertop or any other place where you don’t need a big screen, moves away from the clamshell case design to a flat, one-piece design that can stand up on its own. The player features a 9-inch diagonal LCD screen and built-in stereo speakers.
A handy iPod dock/charger pops out of the side of the player, keeping it out of harm’s way until you need it. In addition to playback from DVD or iPod, there’s a built-in SD/MMC card slot if you prefer to keep your media on memory cards. It supports a wide variety of playback formats including DVD, DVD+/-R and DVD+/-RW, (S)VCD, DivX & MPEG4 videos.
Since the player’s DNA comes from Philips portable DVD line, it’s also got a rechargeable battery, so you can take it on the road. You should get enough time to watch about 2.5 hours of video on a single charge.
The only real downside that I can see to this player is the displays less-than-stellar 640×220 resolution. For a 9-inch screen that’s pretty darned weak. As long as you can deal with the low display resolution, the DCP951 looks like a good fit for tight spaces and can perform double-duty as a portable.

Sony's Rolly: dancing thing
From a design perspective, Sony's Rolly is actually a rather cunningly constructed little box of tricks. The speakers sit at each end of the device covered by 'ear' flaps that can open at up to 90°. These flaps are in turn mounted on end caps that can rotate through 360°.
Inboard of the end caps are rubber rims that rotate in either direction giving the Rolly the ability to move forward or backward or spin on its axis. LEDs run the diameter of the device at the junction of the end caps and the rims while another set of LEDs surround the function button.
All those flaps, hinges, rims and lights allow the Rolly to execute an impressive array of moves and pyrotechnics - 700 individual lighting effects, according to Sony - while keeping everything remarkably compact.
The design does, however, have one major flaw. Every time the ear flaps close during a dance move, the sounds falls into the toilet because they cover the speakers. This is shame because with the flaps open the Rolly produces a very nice sound for something its size, with solid bass, focused treble and no distortion whatsoever, even at higher volume levels.
Lightshow included
The Rolly's exterior controls are limited to an on/off/Bluetooth slider and a well-concealed mini USB port. Changing albums and tracks is achieved by rolling the device forward or back. Spinning the unit on its axis, either clockwise or anti-clockwise, adjusts the volume.
Sony VAIO FW Review by Laptop Logic
Sony’s VAIO FW series are all really nice-looking laptops – they bear more than a little resemblance to the latest aluminum MacBook lineup and use the same Intel Centrino 2 CPUs. That’s where the similarities end though. This laptop has a 16.4″ LCD in the 16:10 widescreen format and is clearly built for entertainment, and more specifically watching movies. Our review sample called FW-270j came with a Blu-Ray player, a reasonably fast 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo (P8400) CPU, integrated Intel graphics, 4GB of DDR2 RAM and lots of ugly stickers. Sure, stickers can be removed, but the fact that Sony decided to paste a “Full HD 1080p” on it is more than a little misleading, as the screen resolution is 1600×900.

Sony has unveiled the VAIO NW consumer laptop series, featuring a 15.5″ display, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512MB dedicated graphics, and a Blu-Ray Combo drive in select models.
The NW also includes a chicklet style keyboard, built-in web camera and microphone, HDMI and VGA outputs, WiFi, a Gigabit LAN port, three USB ports an ExpressCard slot, SD card and Memory Stick PRO slots, and a Firewire port.

With the new 5.1 Megapixel sensor, Creative DiVi CAM 516 is able to capture high resolution images that are fine in details and vibrant in colours. It can even capture images up to 12.0 Megapixel interpolated resolution.
With shooting modes such as Normal and Macro and a 4X digital zoom, the DiVi CAM 516 is easy to use even for amateur photographers.
Practical Functions
In addition to digital video recording, Creative DiVi CAM 516 functions as a MP3 player, voice recorder and even a webcam. Apart from enjoying digital music on the move, Creative DiVi CAM 516 can be used to record lectures, meetings or seminars. These media collections can be shared easily among friends and families through the USB port. Videoconferencing and messaging are also possible with the built-in webcam function.
Creative DiVi CAM 516 only requires 4 AAA batteries and has 32MB of built-in memory with an option for expansion through the Secure Digital (SD) expansion slot. Users can increase the memory storage up to 1GB for more photograph and video collections.
